May 18, 2021 Clinic NewsCOVID
  1. 1st CHOICE IS STILL REQUIRING MASKS in all of our clinics.  The CDC stated that the recent changes regarding masks do NOT apply to individuals in healthcare settings.  The CDC advises that all staff, patients, and visitors in a healthcare facility continue to mask.
  2. THE CHANGES ONLY APPLY TO VACCINATED INDIVIDUALS.  The new recommendations no longer require masking for those individuals who have been fully vaccinated (2 weeks past the 2nd shot of Pfizer and Moderna or 2 weeks past the 1st shot of Johnson and Johnson).  If you haven’t been fully vaccinated, you need to continue masking in your private lives.
  3. The CDC is currently reviewing mask recommendations within healthcare settings.  They are expected to make additional recommendations in the next few weeks.  These recommendations are again expected to apply ONLY to fully vaccinated people.  If you haven’t started or finished your vaccine series, now is a good time to start.

Here’s the link for the official CDC update: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html

Please note the 2nd paragraph that states, “These recommendations can help you make decisions about daily activities after you are fully vaccinated. They are not intended for healthcare settings.”

We are offering Moderna vaccinations at all clinics. Schedule your appointment by calling your local clinic.

COVID TESTING DELAYS

1st Choice offers COVID PCR testing via our partner lab, Quest Diagnostics.  This type of testing is the gold standard for COVID testing and offers patients the most reliable results.  However, due to the increased testing demand in our state and surrounding states, our partner lab has become overwhelmed. Return times for COVID testing have increased from 2-3 days to 10+ days.

Because of this delay, 1st Choice has made the decision to temporarily discontinue our free drive-up COVID testing.

We will continue to offer COVID testing to symptomatic or exposed patients after evaluation by a provider.  Please call to schedule an appointment with one of our providers to discuss COVID testing.

1st Choice is exploring other testing options that meet our criteria for being both reliable and timely.  We hope to resume our free drive-up COVID testing in the future.
